Welcome to our web page. My name is Dustin Pillard. We have a small acreage in north-central Iowa with about 40 head of miniature cattle. We bought our first miniature cattle back in 1993. Before we bought any we subscribed to many exotic animal magazines and made numerous phone calls. We had no idea what type of mini cattle were out there. We just started buying small and colorful little cattle.

Every year we can hardly wait for new calves. Our calves have gotten more colorful also. Their small size gets all the attention. My son was 3 yrs old when he started taking calves to the fair. My daughter probably would not have taken calves to the fair in 4-H if they were the standard sized ones. We try to add new calf pictures within a week of being born. We like to have 20 cows calving every year, plus the heifers we keep back.
Our cows are getting better and better with every year. They too are getting smaller, more colorful and better looking. We want little cows that look like cows. We have 5 cows that are 2 yrs or older and around 32 inches tall or less. We also like lots of color...spots, brindles and combinations of those. All the while we are working to maintain healthy and productive animals. Most of our heifers breed as yearlings, and rebreed every year. We enjoy the cows & the calves they give us every year.

Our original goal was to raise miniature texas longhorns. Since there were none available at that time, we used a wide range of miniature cattle breeds to get the look we liked. We wanted small, under 36 inches tall. I have always liked the colored cattle; brindles, spots and tri-colors, like the longhorns have. We have since added some nice registered miniature longhorns to our herd. We look forward to expanding our registered herd as well as producing small colorful cattle.

It is real hard to find something cuter than kids and their calves. Little Jessica got to lead a parade in Louisiana with one of our little heifer calves. I am not sure who enjoyed the attention more, the little cowgirl or the calf. Either way, this is definitely a winning pair.
